High Ground Floor: Between Chalet and Skyscraper

A design studio in New York reflects on traditional Swiss craftsmanship in a modern design language

Clear lines, the shapes are simple and modern, yet the bedside table and stool are reminiscent of cozy times in mountain huts and chalets. Like the first, the second collection from the Brooklyn-based Studio Seitz now also refers to traditional Swiss craftsmanship. Stamped handles adorn the drawers of the solid ash side tables. The lamp and stool also show the creative pedigree. The brass candle holder borrows its shape from a milk pail, can be used on both sides for long candles or tea lights and is as practical as a pocket knife. The fascination for Swiss craftsmanship runs in the designer family. Kevin Seitz grew up in Berneck, where his ancestors had been producing ceramics and furniture since the 18th century. Together with studio partner Rob van Wyen, he now continues to write this story from New York. The two designers have their products produced in companies in St. Gallen and Appenzell Innerrhoden and want to revive old techniques. Seitz and van Wyen appropriately call the current collection "Heritage".
